Eremiel, Vigilant Blade of Grigori
+1 Merciful Holy Bastard Sword of Dragonsbane
Two-Handed Exotic Melee Weapon
This weapon has two modes:
Blue Mode (Mercy)
Blue mode is the default mode of the blade and is reverted to following a fight. it can otherwise be activated by speaking aloud: “Eremiel, have mercy.” or by willing it with a DC5 concentration check (a free action). while in this mode, the blade glows a calm blue as the “light” spell, this cannot be suppressed.
Enhancement: 2d6 Dragonsbane) (+1d6 against evil) (All Non Lethal)
Weight: 13 lb.
Red Mode (Expel)
Red mode can be activated by speaking aloud: “Eremiel, Expel.” or by willing it with a DC15 concentration check (a free action). while in this mode, the blade glows a dark red and burns the hands of it’s holder, although no pain is felt, the wielder takes 1d4-2 fire damage each round the sword remains in this mode. the 1d6 merciful damage becomes fire damage.
Enhancement: 1d6 fire (1d6 against evil) (All Non Lethal)
Weight: 13 lb.
Merciful: The weapon deals an extra 1d6 points of damage, and all damage it deals is nonlethal damage. On command, the weapon suppresses this ability until commanded to resume it.
Dragonsbane infusion: like most artifacts of the Great Purge, this weapon is infused with the druid’s dragonsbane herb, bestowing a further +2 enhancement bonus and 2d6 damage when used on a creature with the dragon type or dragonblood subtype.
Sentient: flowing both through the blade and it’s wielder is the spirit of Eremiel, Angel of Grigori. although the blade cannot speak, it can project emotions that can be read by it’s wielder. if the wielder attempt to use the blade against it’s will, the wielder and the sword make opposed charisma check (the blade is treated as have a +3), to prevent the action from occurring. the blade can also use this to change it’s mode.
Holy: +1d6 damage against evil aligned creatures. It bestows one negative level on any evil creature attempting to wield it. The negative level remains as long as the weapon is in hand and disappears when the weapon is no longer wielded. This negative level never results in actual level loss, but it cannot be overcome in any way (including restoration spells) while the weapon is wielded.
This strangely weighted sword, larger than any you’ve seen before, though definitely designed for man-sized hands, is not unlike a bastard sword in many respect. the blade glows red when most hands come near to the hilt, but for the chosen few it causes the sword to shine a brilliant blue light when gripped, those with this are chosen avatars of the Grigori.
Grigori were high-ranking officers in the holy army of Graeus in the great purge. This particular blade belonged to Eremiel, an angel of great mercy. He was best known for his mercy against his foes, never resorting to killing unless absolutely necessary.
He was killed in a long fight against Guhla, the great blue dragon. at first it had appeared that Eremiel had won the fight, but the dragon awakened and killed the angel by a bolt of lightning through his back.
it is said that when he was slain by Guhla the great blue dragon, part of his consciousness was passed into the sword. it is said that it will refuse to be held by anyone who is not true of heart and soul. there are few who have wielded this mighty sword, but those who have say that the speaks to them in times of doubt.
In the past it is said the legendary warrior Hawklight did wield this sword in the age of rebirth following the great purge. The valiant paladin-knight, Sir Barthos Rouge, grandfather to infamous Artemis Rouge , was said to also wield this sword.
it has been lost for many hundred years, many say laying dormant in wait for the next one worthy of it.
